Algal pigments for the colouration of bio-based textiles

The textile industry worldwide accounts for circa 8-10% of the CO2 emissions, 20% of the industrial water pollutions, 35% of the oceanic primary micro plastic load, and causes 92 mill t a-1 textile waste. Therefore, the search for sustainable substitutes of crude oil-based dyes and textiles, and water-saving alternatives has become paramount.
The main objective of the REPTA project is the innovative coupling of biotechnological und textile finishing processes.
