Rotating Wire Collector
The rotating wire collector is a specialized tool designed to produce highly aligned nanofibers. This collector consists of thin stainless-steel wires arranged equidistantly from the axis of rotation. At very low rotational speeds, fibers are deposited not only on the wires but also between them. The principle of aligned fiber formation in this setup is similar to that of the static patterned collector.
As the rotational speed increases, the combined effect of electrostatic and mechanical forces enhances the degree of alignment of the individual fibers. Notably, to achieve excellent fiber alignment, the required rotational speeds are significantly lower than those needed for a rotating drum collector. This efficiency in achieving high alignment at lower speeds makes the rotating wire collector a valuable tool in nanofiber fabrication.
